Photographs of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, Calverley to Silsden section.
Click to enlarge.Calverley Cutting, a straight road blasted through the sandstone of Calverley Woods in the 1850s. It was part of a scheme to develop the woods for high class residential housing. However, the new road, although shorter, was considerably steeper than the old meandering packhorse route it replaced. Calverley Cutting ran from Carr Road through the woods to Apperley Bridge. The proposed residential development of the area was never to be fully realised.
