These are pictures of the countryside between Walton and Crofton that would have been affected by the original route.
With the revised route, Hare Park will still be affected by the New Crofton Rolling Stock Depot.

The railway bridge over Shay Lane (B6378), Crofton. The HS2 will cross this on a viaduct, with branch line leading to a rolling stock depot.

Hare Park and the East Coast Mainline.

Thorntree Farm from Shay Lane. The HS2 route passes between this farm and Highwood Farm. There will be a cutting through Thorntree Hill.

Highwood Farm from the Public Right of Way, Shay Lane - Hare Park Junction.

Highwood Farm. There will be an embankment inbetween this farm and Hare Park High Wood to carry the line to the HS2 Rolling Stock Depot.

Hare Park Junction where the East Coast Main Line and the freight line meet. The ECML will be crossed by the HS2 main line (between Thorntree and Highwood Farms) and a line (between Hare Park High Wood and Hare Park Junction) leading to the rolling stock depot . This branch line will run alongside the ECML at this point.

In addition to the existing ECML Coast Mainline, there will be a new line alongside it, connecting to the HS2 Rolling Stock Depot.

Hare Park Junction, the bridge leading to Hare Park crosses over the ECML. A new line to the rolling stock depot will run inbetween the existing line and Hare Park.

Stubbs Wood in Walton Park. Drain Beck flows into Walton Hall Lake, eventually flowing out towards Shay Lane by Brooklands Estate.

The grave of Squire Charles Waterton, the naturalist and wanderer in South America. Walton (or Waterton) Park is the site of the world's first nature reserve.

The proposed route is near the eastern edge of of Haw Park Wood, between it and Anglers Country Park, and will cross the Trans Pennine Trail and other footpaths.

The proposed route passes close by Anglers Country Park and will cross the Trans Pennine Trail between it and Haw Park Wood, as well as other public footpaths to Walton (Waterton) Park.

Cold Hiendley Reservoir near the dam separating it from Wintersett Reservoir. The HS2 viaduct may well be ousting the present inhabitants of this area, such as the nesting swans.

Cold Hiendley Reservoir. A viaduct will carry the HS2 line across the reservoir in the distance, near the dam separating it from Wintersett Reservoir.

Wintersett Reservoir, view towards Emley Moor. Cold Hiendley Reservoir lies just behind the dam and overflow channel crossed by the bridge. The HS2 viaduct will span Cold Hiendley Reservoir just beyond the dam.
