The WERR is 7.5km (4.66 miles) long. In addition to the new railway bridge featured on this page, it involved building a single-span road bridge across the River Calder - the first of its kind in the city for over 100 years. Further development of the area is to follow.

'The £35m Wakefield Eastern Relief Road is expected to open in 2017. It will ease traffic congestion in and out of the city and improve connections to the motorway network.'
